    Hi there, I’m Gloria, the OG Simmer and organization nerd behind Yellow Llama Co.

    A Notion template is basically a pre-built setup you can copy straight into your own Notion workspace. Instead of starting from a blank page, you get a ready-made structure that’s already designed to do something specific. You can use it as-is or tweak it to fit your exact needs, so you can skip the setup and jump right into actually using it.

    If you want to skip months of trial and error with Notion, buying a template from someone who has already put in the work can save you a lot of time and frustration. The real magic of Notion is in its formulas and relational databases but they take time to learn, and even longer to piece them together into a system that’s actually useful.

    Yes, updates are 100% free! However, since SimGuardian is a Notion template that you copy into your own workspace, updates won’t automatically apply to your copy.

    No worries though. Each update I make comes with a detailed guide that walks you through how to apply any changes or new features to your existing setup.

    If you already feel at home with Notion and have tinkered around with it before, these changes should be a breeze.

    If you are new to Notion, you may find it challenging to make the changes at first. You can take your time when updating your SimGuardian and you also have my support if you ever feel stuck. I recommend filling the SimGuardian in via the desktop experience and using the mobile apps to reference what you’ve saved.

    That’s totally up to you! You can hide dashboards and properties that you don’t use and remove sections you’re not interested in.

    If you’re happy with your current tool, there’s no need necessarily to switch. There are so many ways to capture our stories, and I don’t believe there’s a single perfect solution. I’m a fan of using different tools and love the SimGuardian in particular for its customizability and the way it connects the information I add to it. If you’re struggling to track your characters and their storylines, the SimGuardian might be just what you need.

    The first difference between all three is where you’ll use them:

    • The Digital Sim Life Planner (DSLP) is used on a tablet with a stylus and digital note-taking app, such as GoodNotes.
    • The Sim Chronicles for OneNote (SCfO) template is designed exclusively for OneNote and is cross-platform compatible, since the free OneNote app it is made for is available on PC, Mac, Android and iOS.
    • The SimGuardian is a Notion-based system and also cross-platform compatible. With the free Notion app you can use the Sim Guardian on PC, Mac, Android and iOS.

    The SimGuardian covers everything the Sim Chronicles can do plus a lot more. And thanks to Notion’s connected databases, information is truly connected. You can link pages in the Sim Chronicles, though these links aren’t bidirectional in OneNote. It’s also easier to change properties in the SimGuardian for all records on the fly or make changes to page layouts. Via templates its super easy to then apply any page layout changes across the system without overwriting information already added to your records.

    The Sim Chronicles has the upper hand if you want to work 100% locally (Notion doesn’t have an offline mode) or if you want to use custom fonts (Notion has only three fonts). It’s also great if you prefer the familiar Wiki-style setup.

    The Digital Sim Life Planner (DSLP) is probably best for tracking a single family or character and especially great for role-playing. You can embellish the pages in your DSLP with a mix of your own handwriting, doodles, digital stickers, photos and even custom fonts. Using the DSLP feels more like journaling in comparison to the SimGuardian. The DSLP is designed to be used with a note-taking app on a tablet, whereas the SimGuardian can be used on any device with the free Notion app.

    The SimGuardian is the most practical of all three if you want to track lore, characters and more across entire save files for multiple life sim games, have a seamless connection between everything you save and to be able to customize the system on a whim.
